My most distinguished lamp. Those hairs are gray cause he's one of those salt and pepper hunks, you know the kind I'm talking about: Cloony, Grant, Ford, Selleck, I could go on...
(Do you think he needs a bow tie or a necktie to complete the look?)
TO DO THIS:
1. Pick an embroidery or cross stitch design you like. and size it out to fit onto your lampshade well. Keep in mind curved lampshades will work too. Transfer your design onto a piece of paper.
2. Tape the paper where you want it on the lampshade and punch through the styrene with either a thick sharp needle or something similar. DONT use an Exacto knife. it'll give you slits instead of holes. And make sure you support the styrene you don't want to ruin the lampshade, especially if it is older.
3. Remove the paper and start going at it. I would suggest using knots instead of the traditional tails under method because it shows through when the light is on. That's the one thing that really bugs me about mine so be conscious of what's going on in the back.
4. Trim all your tails (unless you like that look) and stick it on the base. Sit back and enjoy reading your favorite book under it's comforting light.
ANOTHER IDEA:
If you don't have the time to sit and mess with a curly stash like this, consider purchasing a dark fringe and cutting it into two equal pieces (or not). make sure to fray check (or melt if it's synthetic) the ends so it doesn't run away from you. trim to shape and glue top edge onto the lampshade. For stashe shaping ideas just google images (goatees are allowed too). There's a plethora of good shapes...
...this is not one of them.
P.S.
By the way the mu-stash isn't my design...I blatantly ripped it off from Spamberly of Etsy fame.
Just so yall know I'm not claiming it as my own.
Oh, and if anyone is interested I designed those koi cut outs on my desk (also a number I saved from DI) from contact paper. Thus far I've had no complaints from them, no peeling or anything. If you want the pattern for them I can post them or send them to you directly, just let me know. Over and out!
